What are tarot cards and what do they do

Tarot cards are a 78-card symbol system: 22 Major Arcana life themes plus 56 Minor Arcana everyday suits. They 'do' one thing excellently — structure an honest question into a spread you can read as a story. Prediction isn't their mechanism; pattern-mirroring is. Which is exactly why they still work five hundred years on.
